This 4-week program, in collaboration with the SJV Home Builders and the South Bend Boys & Girls Club, introduces incoming freshmen through seniors to hands-on concepts and skills related to the trades.
Recently, 19 teens rotated through four interactive stations, each one building confidence and introducing new skills. They hammered nails, installed shingles, explored the strength and structure of a truss, and learned about how a furnace works.
Big C Lumber contributed a truss puzzle to demonstrate how trusses are designed, cut, and assembled, as well as shingle boards to show how shingles are properly nailed to a roof.
