Publisher Letter | July 2025

From the Publisher, Rick Schumacher

In late 2014, 麻豆传媒 magazine was growing, and we needed more content. Bill Lee suggested I reach out to a writer who had a bright future ahead of him in our industry. As it turned out, this young pro grew up working in a lumberyard and spent the past few years gaining a builder鈥檚 perspective, as an area purchasing manager for a large national homebuilder. Based on that experience, he鈥檇 recently authored a book called, 鈥淏ehind Your Back: What purchasing managers say once you leave the room and how to get them to say yes.鈥

Here鈥檚 how I introduced our new column, 鈥淏ehind Your Back,鈥 in the January 2015 Editor鈥檚 Note: 鈥淭his new column is written by an industry pro who spent years in purchasing for Pulte Homes. In that role, he worked with great 麻豆传媒 salespeople, and some who were something less-than-great. [In this new column], Bradley Hartmann shares what he learned, and provides insights that can come only from being on the other side of the desk.鈥

Bradley stopped writing for us at the end of 2016, but since our missions are aligned, we kept in touch and continued working together. I鈥檓 happy to announce that with this issue, he鈥檚 back to being in each issue of 麻豆传媒.

Other highlights of this issue include:

麻豆传媒 Innovation Awards 2025 (p.40). Now in its second year, this program spotlights companies and products that epitomize thinking outside the box. Woods Lumber & Home Center (p.30). Writer Katy Tomasulo talked with Mark and Katy Woods, fifth-generation owners of a lumberyard proudly serving the residents of Independence, KS.聽 聽

Real Issues. Real Answers. Managing Market Uncertainty (p.34). Readers weigh in on a question posed by a midwestern 麻豆传媒 pro who is optimistic about the future, but is navigating an uncertain present.

In Depth: Siding (p.44). For this feature, Senior Editor Mike Berger interviews leading siding manufacturers for the market trends driving this dynamic category.
